Sanctioned Events
Just seen this on GW page... interesting:
Quote:
Running sanctioned Guild Wars tournaments is a great service a store, fansite, or other group can offer their players. Sanctioned events build the player community, and keep player involved in organized play at their location for a long time to come. Details on how to sanction events coming soon.

I think i have an idea where they're pointing to, but i'd like your comments...
Regards,

I thought so, as i'm not an english native speaker, i look it up in answers.com and:
The adjective sanctioned has 3 meanings:
Meaning #1: conforming to orthodox or recognized rules
Meaning #2: formally approved and invested with legal authority
Meaning #3: established by authority; given authoritative approval
Does it mean that we'll be seeing "anet approved" tournies in the future? That would be great: GW is a great game, but needs more "showrooming"... many people asked me in forums if there`s a free trial key because in the PvP weekend and Factions Preview Event you can just access cookie cut standard template builds and you can`t experience the strength of a char without unlocking some skills.
Whats more: many people were discouraged to buy GW because of this, as they were owned in arenas with those builds.

hmmm... the description seems pretty fuzzy and open-ended.
this may seem cynical, but it sounds to me like in-game advertising that is somehow incorporated into "sanctioned" events built by anet. i.e. "droks relay race sponsored by comp usa"

I think what it means that say, a round robin GuildWars tournament, someone can gain a certain authority to watch over it, which in turn can add to ones overall ranking, sort of like MTg and their DCI, where there are santioned judges at tournaments, and at these tournaments your wins/losses are recorded, and input into a data base where you can be ranked agaisnt those who also participate in sanctioned tournaments.
I think thats what it means..but I could be wrong.

i don't think its all that complicated.
just means player organized events and tournaments can be approved by anet.
something officially sanctioned by anet would help with anyones credibility when trying to organize something.

Not for nothing, but that wouldn't be a bad idea. Keep it to where there is no actual advertising on GW the game, but events like 'Droks Relay Race, brought to you by COMP USA' is an actual event you can register for at an offsite website run by Comp USA or whoever, with the winner getting something. This way CompUSA gets hits on it's non-GW site, which they can fill with as much advertising as they want, and for every hit, they can float GW some cash. The ads never make it into the game, just the competitions, and folks can partake or remain oblivious.
